The word AGARWAL takes us back to the famous regime of emperor MAHARAJA AGRASEN, the leader of a social
reformation movement to uplift the downtrodden and a well-known personality in Indian Culture and Civilization.
Maharaja Agrasen was the founder of the Agarwal Community. His native place is the famous city Agroha.
All Agarwal families today regard Agroha, the capital of his regime, as a holy place. It is situated in
Hissar, a district in Haryana state, about 150 km. from Delhi - well connected by roads.
Maharaja Agrasen was the son of King Vallabhji and grandson of Maharaja Mahindar. He married
Madhavi, daughter of King Kumud. He got eighteen sons and history says the Eighteen Gotras are derived
after the names of his sons. His pupils are called AGARWALS.
Maharaja Agrasen built a vast empire with his foresight, might and skill on the basis of socialistic ideals,
humanity and non-violence. The nature of his vast kingdom was so perfect and practical - with coordination of
statesmanship, religion, politics and socialism - that many orators of that time, and of present time, and
philosophers of socialism, have failed to present any improved idea till today.
Maharaja Agrasen made a very simple rule to establish permanently the basis of equality and perfect love. The
rule of his kingdom was that any family, any person of any caste or tribe - who would like to settle in the kingdom -
will get ONE RUPEE AND ONE BRICK from each family already residing in his kingdom. There could be no better
practical rule of socialism and humanity or human welfare! He was the first ruler who established socialism in his
regime. The idea of Equality, Socialism and Non-violence propounded by Maharaja Agrasen - 5000 years back
- finds an echo in the present Indian Constitution.
