Introduction Chennai is the fourth largest city in India. Even though the city itself is just 350 years old, the areas that comprise the city are centuries old. It is the heart of the Dravidian culture and gateway to South India.

It is a coastal city with 2 large ports, a thriving business hub with major auto and IT industries.

The City and the State (Tamil Nadu) have lot of attraction for the tourists - ranging from architectures to theme parks. Places of interest outside Chennai include Mahabalipuram, Ooty, Kodaikanal and Pondicherry.

It is a cosmpolitan city, considered more conservative than other major cities. It has a famous cuisine and is home to second largest movie production centre in India.

All major countries (including the US, UK, Germany and Japan) have their consulates here

Among the popular festivals celebrated are Pongal (January), Tamil New Year (April), Eids, Diwali (October - November) and Christmas (December).

November - January is also the music season in Chennai when scores of halls play host to a variety of traditional music concerts (Carnatic and others).

Season Chennai weather is generally considered to be hot. In May, the temperature can soar to about 42 C. December and January are the coolest when the mean temperature is around 24 C.

October to December are monsoon (North-East) months in Chennai when the city receives the maximum rains. Between June and August, it is the season of South-West Monsoon
Reaching Here Chennai is well-connected to the outside world by air, sea, road and railways.

It has 2 airports - Anna International and Kamraj Domestic. Direct flights to Europe, Middle-East, Asia and the US operate out of Chennai.

Chennai is also well connected by rail links. Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore are the 2 major rail terminuses.
